Christina Angela Ntulo

Founder and Executive Director Malachite Center for Mental Health

Christina Angela Ntulo is a mental health worker with over 26 years of experience, implementing medium to large scale mental health programmes in Africa. Her work started at St. Peter school in Nairobi where she initiated its first Early intervention Program for the children with intellectual and learning disabilities. This work she was enabled her to enroll children as young as 3 years offering them a rich mix of therapies that included occupational and speech therapy, life skills development while providing a near to typical school day experience.

She then went on to work for the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kenya where she was tasked to set up its counselling department. During her employment, Christina supported a number of clients to come up with solutions that didn’t require them to go to the court. These included reconciliation between couples and solving disputes between families and in-laws as well as providing therapeutic services to survivors of sex and gender-based violence.

Christina spearheaded Uganda’s first community Mental Health Program with BasicNeeds, a U.K-based charity focusing on scaling mental health outreach services and building the capacity of individuals with lived experience. Her efforts contributed to Uganda repealing the Mental Health Treatment Act of 1964 and establishing progressive mental health laws. At BasicNeeds, she collaborated with the ministry of health, integrating mental health treatment at Health Center 11 and 111.

Later, Christina joined strong minds, an NGO delivering group talk therapy for depression. She played a vital role, serving as Deputy Director, adapting the therapy model during lockdown, and significantly increasing the number of beneficiaries reaching up to 82,000 in 2022 as Country Director. Currently, Christina is establishing The Malachite center for Mental Health, a social enterprise with a focus on workplace mental health, school-based interventions for Emotional Literacy, and quality therapy services.
